My name is Mak and I'm a senior Communications major here at UCSD. I transferred from Santa Barbara City College in 2019 as a junior, and took the 2020-2021 school year off due to COVID. Some fun facts about me are that I have a black cat named Stevie Nicks, I am a manager of the UCSD Women's Basketball team, and I play on the Ultimate Frisbee team here at UCSD.
I have worked professionally in kitchens in a bunch of different roles from short order cook to prep cook to line cook and everything in between! I have a big passion for cooking and food and hope to further my culinary career in the future. I'm super excited to learn about food of South Asia and beyond, and am looking forward to getting to know everyone over the course of this class. Feel free to hit me up if you want to study together or grab a meal sometime!
I love watching food videos in my spare time, and will a lot of times have them playing in the background when I eat or cook. Here are some of my favorite videos about Indian/South Asian food!
**Very elementary level information about Indian food, but they're a fun watch!**

I was checking out the website of one of my favorite food writers (Priya Krishna, definitely check her out!), I saw that she had written a piece about the "Butter Chicken Lady" that we read about this week which was super exciting. My parents got me an Instant Pot for Christmas a few years ago, so I think I might try making the famous recipe once I get back to San Diego and have access to my Instant Pot again (currently staying at home in Santa Barbara due to quarantine). Here's the link to Priya's article if anyone is interested:
