There are many types of buttons and mice are always on the lookout for new ones to improve their defense and appearance. This post covers options for button shield types and some basic shield tactics for small groups of mice. More will be added to this post as new items and tactics are made.

Alternate buttons can be replaced with the basic button of a light armor set. A mouse can sell their original button for 50p, a little under half the total cost of a light armor set.
To use alternate shields, place them over the basic light armor as shown here.
Adopt the shield's new durability as that of the whole set of armor.
Below are several alternate button types that can be purchased in mouse settlements.
A decorative metal button.
Changes the durability of a light armor set to 5.
When polished a Brass button shines impressively, giving the wielder advantage to social related checks.
Cost: 100p
A pearly button hand carved from shell.
Changes the durability of a light armor set to 2.
Adds 1 Defense against Magic.
When hit by a magical attack, roll d6. On 6, the spell is deflected in another direction and no damage is taken.
Cost: 80p
A pearly button hand carved from shell.
Changes the durability of a light armor set to 1.
Adds 2 Defense against Magic.
When hit by a magical attack, roll d6. On 6, the spell is deflected in another direction and no damage is taken.
Cost: 80p
When hit by a piercing weapon, roll d6. On 4-6, the weapon becomes stuck in the shield. STR save to remove.
Vulnerable to axes. Mark usage following a hit by a chopping weapon.
Cost: 60p
When hit by a missile, roll d6. On 5-6, the missile is deflected in another direction and no damage is taken.
Cost: 60p
In the kingdom of Moonshore, the First guard is always drilling and practicing group tactics to face the many dangers that threaten their home.
The Shield Wall - Two or more mice stand side by side and hold shields close as they advance at half speed toward a threat similar in size to them. The combined wall of shields provides the group with partial cover. Enemy attacks are impaired when attacking or loosing missiles into this formation. Should a mouse break the formation or if an enemy manages to break or out flank their line, cover benefits are immediately lost.
The Tortoise - An advanced formation involving at least six mice with shields. All mice in this formation must have experience with shield tactics such as the Shield wall or the formation will not be effective under threat. The front row of mice holds their shields in a shield wall formation while the second row of mice hold their shields over the heads of themselves and the mouse in front of them. This formation provides full cover from enemy melee and ranged attacks but the formation moves at half speed and no mouse can attack until the formation is broken.
