Dispersal rate が高すぎると、隣接したパッチでの遺伝子交流が起こりにくい。先住効果により、新しい種の入植が起こりにくくなり、孤立した個体群が形成されると、中立的な遺伝子の遺伝的浮動により、隣接したパッチ間でも遺伝的分化が高くなることがある。
