The Faculty of Education is deeply committed to excellence in teaching. To celebrate the outstanding achievements within our community, we offer several awards to honor the notable contributions of our members.
The adjudication criteria for the Faculty of Education Teaching Awards will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence as outlined in the Framework for Effective Teaching.
Demonstration of impact and creativity in teaching that enhances learning and engages students.
Engagement with the commitments outlined in Braiding Past, Present and Future: University of Alberta’s Indigenous Strategic Plan.
Engagement with the institutional commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusivity.
Please submit by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Monday, March 3, 2025.

The Faculty of Education Graduate Teaching Award recognizes graduate-level teaching excellence, encourages the pursuit of such excellence, and promotes informed discussion of graduate teaching and its improvement in the Faculty and at the University of Alberta.
Any Academic Faculty Member (Category A1) who can demonstrate significant and sustained evidence of teaching excellence at the graduate level and has taught at the graduate level within the last 24 months of the date of application.
The Faculty of Education Undergraduate Teaching Award recognizes undergraduate-level teaching excellence, encourages the pursuit of such excellence, and promotes informed discussion of undergraduate teaching and its improvement in the Faculty and at the University of Alberta.
Any Academic Faculty Member (Category A1) who can demonstrate significant and sustained evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and has taught at the undergraduate level within the last 24 months of the date of application.
The Faculty of Education Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) Undergraduate Teaching Award recognizes undergraduate-level teaching excellence, encourages the pursuit of such excellence, and promotes informed discussion of undergraduate teaching and its improvement in the Faculty and at the University of Alberta.
Any Academic Teaching Staff (Categories A2.1 and A2.2, excluding full-time graduate students) who have evidence of teaching excellence and have taught a minimum of 3 course sections (total of at least *9 credits) within the last 36 months of date of the application.
Previous recipients of this award may be nominated again after a minimum of five years. It is expected that any subsequent nomination would present new and current supporting evidence.
