All students are required to contact the Office of Outbound Services, which provides guidance on visa requirements for global field intensive programs. It is the student's responsibility to complete the necessary steps to obtain all required travel documents prior to departure. Domestic and international students should contact [email protected] to confirm visa requirements based on both citizenship and travel itineraries. However, here are some general guidelines:
US and Canadian students will enter as a non-visa required tourist for the duration of the program.
US Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) will enter as a non-visa required tourist for the duration of the program. Green Card must be presently on the traveler upon arrival at the border.
Indian students who hold a valid F-1 visa or Permanent Resident card will not require a visa to enter as a tourist. Students must ensure they have a valid F-1 visa stamp and updated I-20 signature if they are not a Green Card holder.
All other nationalities (China, etc.) should check in with OGS prior to the program regarding a visa.
General Bahamas Visa Requirements Information:
As a preliminary reference, students may use this page to check whether they may need a visa, however they must follow up with the Office of Outbound Services for confirmation.
Passports should be valid at least six (6) months after the GFI Program ends (January 2026). Click here for NYU passport services and information.
All GFI participants, (faculty and students), are required to complete the Travel Registry Form by the designated deadline outlined here prior to arrival at the GFI destination. Prior to departure, the Travel Registry profile for each participant should have a green checkmark for all items in the checklist.
All students participating in the GFI must speak with NYU's Travel Medicine office at least 4-6 weeks in advance of the trip.
Some students traveling to the Bahamas may need to be vaccinated for Yellow Fever, more information can be found here.
It is the student's responsibility to seek further guidance with their primary care physician and or the the NYU Travel Medicine, if needed.
