This project seeks to capture the histories of three Vietnamese generations. Collectively these Vietnamese Canadians living in Calgary will have memories of life in Vietnam, the Vietnam War, the displacement and resettlement of refugees from Vietnam and the impact of growing up in a family that has gone through this journey. We are passionate about documenting the histories and legacies of those who left and resettled here, in order to preserve their stories for future generations.
Through these histories, we aim to add to the broader narrative of the Vietnamese immigrants who are survivors of war in their home country, contributors to society in their new homeland, and make Canada proud. The project reflects on the enduring legacies of war, specifically the consequences of a civil war, and examines the impact of refugee resettlement on multi-generations.
We are targeting to collect 50 stories to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, which took place on April 30, 1075. 20 stories will be from our elders and 30 stories will be from our adults and youths.
The stories from our elders will be collected through oral storytelling. The adults and youths stories will be in a variety of formats including written, videos, performance, art, etc.
1.0: Elders (over 65)
1.5: Adults (between 30 and 65)
2.0: Youths (under 30)
