The Regional Arts Vocal program at St. Elizabeth's focuses on vocal training, musicianship and professionalism in a variety of musical contexts. Students learn the values of teamwork, creativity, dedication and discipline through choral instruction, while also improving their confidence and skills as solo performers. All vocal students are exposed to a wide array of music styles and genres, such as classical, music theatre, gospel, jazz and world music. Students also gain experience singing in multiple languages, including French, Italian, Latin, German, Spanish and Swahili. In addition to performing, Regional Arts vocal students learn vocal technique, sight reading and ear training. They also study music history, theory and composition. The Regional Arts vocal program prepares students for entry into music at the post-secondary level.
All Regional Arts Vocal students perform in a variety of ensembles that perform at various performances such as Christmas and Spring concerts and school liturgies. There are also many extra-curricular performances that occur during the school year, such as Variety Night, café evenings or gigs in the community that music students can participate in.
Regional Arts Vocal students are offered amazing enhancement opportunities in the form of special guest artists, workshops, masterclasses, field trips and live performance experiences.
The culminating task for all Regional Arts Vocal students is the year-end recital, which includes the performance of 10 to 15 minutes worth of solo repertoire with live accompaniment. It is a challenging but rewarding experience that shows the musical progress and growth of each year.
