The Molecular Parasitology Lab @IIT Bombay works on apicomplexan parasites, Plasmodium falciparum and Toxoplasma gondii, that cause widespread human diseases. Our approach is to study the biology of these parasites, while understanding the differences between the parasite and the human host. This approach can lead to potential therapeutic interventions. We use any technique that helps us to answer biological questions: molecular biology, genome editing technology, cell biology, protein expression and purification, biochemical and biophysical assays, bioinformatics and many others. Where we do not have expertise such as structural biology and high-throughput screening, we collaborate.

The lab culture is based on contributing new knowledge to the field, with an absolute commitment to the standards and ethics of scientific research. Lab members take ownership of their projects while working in a collegial and professional team. In addition to rigorous science, lab training includes acquiring expertise in many aspects of the scientific enterprise. As a result, lab members take up different career paths, including academia and those beyond the traditional academic route. Last but not least, the lab is a fun place to work, where we look forward to coming every day!
