Alejandro Bernales is a consultant, advisor, researcher, and academic with over 20 years of international experience in financial economics. He is an Associate Professor (with tenure) at the School of Economics and Business at Universidad de Chile, where he also serves as Director of Research and Director of the Master’s in Finance program.
Dr. Bernales has held positions as a Research Fellow at the Inter-American Development Bank, a Marie Curie Fellow at the European Commission, and as an economist at both the Banque de France (the Central Bank of France) and the Central Bank of Chile. Additionally, he has been a visiting professor at international universities, including the University of Sydney, Goethe University Frankfurt, and ESSEC Business School, among others.
He has experience as a director in the financial sector and has provided consultancy services to various institutions, including private sector companies, international organizations, and governments. His expertise covers areas such as regulation, legal cases involving the financial sector, corporate events, investment decisions, valuation, and portfolio strategies.
Dr. Bernales has published numerous scientific articles in international journals focusing on financial economics and finance. He regularly contributes columns to newspapers and online media. He is fluent in Spanish and English and has an intermediate level of proficiency in French.
Dr. Bernales earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s degree in Financial Engineering from the Catholic University of Chile.
