Mobility is a concept that is deeply connected to where one lives and works. Specifically, people with disabilities, including those with visual impairments or deafblindness, often opt to live in urban communities that have more consistent access to medical care, recreation, transportation, employment opportunities, and a social network.
Sound Transit is a committed transportation partner that is investing in station accessibility through ongoing community engagement with people who have disabilities and seniors. In 2023, ST began a partnership with PSU's O&M program in order to support structured practicum opportunities where PSU O&M students could design tools and evaluate tools that support wayfinding and access in selected transit stations. This project uses a participatory design model where the data from travelers is used to create more universal access for all.
