We will holistically evaluate candidates on the basis of academic potential, financial need, residency, and application essays. Strong applicants will have demonstrated a commitment to STEM studies and interest in undergraduate research, including for example environmental pollution research. Semifinalists may be asked to attend an interview.
Students must be majoring in one of the following STEM areas of study:
-Biological sciences (including environmental science)
-Physical sciences (including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and materials science)
-Mathematical sciences
-Computer and information sciences
-Geosciences
-Engineering
-Other technology areas associated with the preceding fields (e.g., biotechnology, chemical technology, engineering technology, information technology)
Pre-med students do not qualify.
The EAGLES S-STEM Program collaboration, between Portland State University and Heritage University, is designed to guide and support scholars through their academic journey. Scholars receive financial assistance, advising, mentoring, and research opportunities to achieve graduation and prepare for careers in STEM. It is focused on training students in STEM skills to conduct research, for example, on issues related to environmental pollution. Scholars are expected to participate in EAGLES events including our sponsored workshops, courses, conferences, mentoring program, and research opportunities.Â
