The Research

This is a split randomized controlled study (RCT).

What does that mean?

We are working to recruit 80 total schools over the course of multiple years.
This allows us to have smaller groups of schools so that we can better meet the needs of our participants.

COHORT 1

- We engaged in recruitment from Spring 2024 - Spring 2025. Our evaluation partners, the American Institutes for Research (AIR), are working to randomly place recruited schools into two equal groups (Treatment & Control).
  - Cohort 1 Treatment Schools will begin PD Fall of 2025.
  - Cohort 1 Control schools will begin PD Fall of 2026.
  - Cohort 1 Data collection for Treatment and Control will happen during the 2025 - 2026 school year.

COHORT 2

- Cohort 2 - We are engaging in another round of recruitment from Spring of 2025 - Spring of 2026 to recruit a total of 80 schools. In the Spring of 2026, AIR will randomize the second group of recruited schools into Treatment & Control.
- Cohort 2 Treatment Schools will engage in PD during the 26 - 27 school year
- Cohort 2 Control Schools will engage in PD during the 27 - 28 school year.
- Cohort 2 Data collection for Treatment and Control will happen during the 26 - 27 school year.

Data Collection

*Participants may opt out of participating in data collection at any time with no consequences.

As part of the study, we will collect data from and about teachers, administrators, and students. We will ask teachers and administrators to complete a pre-survey at the beginning of the school year and a post-survey at the end of the school year. Teachers will also be asked to record a class at the beginning of the school year and again at the end of the school year to measure the use of PAL Classroom strategies.

Students will participate in the study by completing a student pre-survey at the beginning and end of the school year.

AIR will also securely collect school and grade level demographic information such as teachers' and administrators' years of experience and subject areas taught, as well as students' ages, grade levels, attendance records, free and reduced lunch eligibility, state assessment data, and IEP eligibility.

Data Storage & Participant Protection

All data will be collected and managed by the University of Missouri and the American Institutes of Research (AIR). Once collected, data will be de-identified, encrypted, and stored on secure servers by the University of Missouri.

The eMINTS program has not only changed the dynamics of my classroom but has also altered my perspective on each student who walks through my door.

It has been instrumental in reshaping how I handle behaviors in my class.

Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; eMINTS has taught me that there is much more to it.
