Each of us is a moving ecosystem. Our bodies are home to trillions of bacterial cells that have a major influence on our health. I combine microbial physiology with ecological and evolutionary approaches to study the human microbiome. So far my research has focused on understanding how dietary glycans shape gut microbial communities by mechanisms like niche partitioning and cross-feeding. Going forward, I plan to build on these findings as well as on non-genetic functionalization technologies to harness the microbiome for therapeutic applications.
I'm currently a James S. McDonnell and Rubicon postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Otto Cordero at MIT.
