Welcome to my website. I’m an Associate Professor at ShanghaiTech University.
I'm a development economist. I study how infrastructure, institutions, and technology influence choices related to education and health in low-income countries and disadvantaged populations.
In parallel, I develop NLP tools to analyze complex texts, such as laws and regulatory filings, opening new avenues for studying institutions and policies at scale. My recent work also explores the potential of human–AI interaction to support learning and skill-building in low-resource settings.
My research is supported by the Singapore Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and other international funders. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis.
