Welcome to the Green Energy Materials & Systems (GEMS) Laboratory at Purdue University in Indianapolis. The ultimate goal of Shin's research group is to develop and design sustainable energy materials and systems for future energy storage and conversion applications. Our research group is dedicated to advancing the sustainability of energy storage materials and systems by developing innovative, eco-friendly materials and technologies that reduce the environmental impact of batteries. We focus on exploring alternatives to toxic materials, improving recycling/reuse technologies, eco-design battery systems, and extending battery lifecycles to support a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
We leverage our expertise in advanced materials characterization, in-operando diagnostic techniques, and multi-scale, multi-physics modeling to study battery material properties, mechanics, electrochemistry, and their interactions at both the material and system levels. Our research is highly interdisciplinary, drawing from a wide range of disciplines including mechanical/automotive engineering, electrochemistry, chemistry, materials science and computational science.
We are seeking passionate graduate students who pursue MS thesis and PhD degree. Undergraduate students are also welcome to join our research group. To inquiry about open positions for research, please send CV/resume, transcripts, and a brief statement of interests to Prof. Shin ([email protected]).Â
