Italian node of the European ARC (INAF-IRA)
Many members of the Italian node of the European ARC will contribute to different stages of ARI-L according to their expertise. All the members are expert QA2 analysts, interferometric data reducers, and archive miners. The group scientific expertise covers a broad range of science cases, from compact to extended emissions, both in our own Galaxy and up to high redshift. Marcella Massardi, PI of the ARI-L project, is the manager of the Italian node for the European ALMA Regional Center since 2011. In addition to her research activities in the millimetric extragalactic astronomy, she is involved in the activities of support for the ALMA users including archive mining and data imaging. She has been responsible for the working package dedicated to user support and interfaces for the AENEAS project, an approved H2020 study for the definition of a European network for the SKA-Data Centre. Jan Brand is the ARC node responsible and co-I in the AENEAS project. Nicola Marchili is a Python developer and an archive-miner. Matteo Bonato is actively contributing to the ALMACAL collaboration for the analysis and scientific exploitation of the ALMA calibrator information included in scientific observations. Elisabetta Liuzzo, and Kazi Rygl are developers for the ALMA Keyword Filler software, a Python and CASA routine dictionary to fill the missing information in the FITS header of images generated from archived Measurement Sets. Sandra Burkutean (former IT-ARC member) developed the Key-analysis Automated FITS-images Explorer (KAFE) tool to visualize and produce diagnostic plot for input FITS images. Andrea Giannetti (former IT-ARC member) is a Python developer and an archive-miner and automatized most of the activities for the ALMA Re-Imaging development study.
Felix Stoehr has extensive experience in Archiving, in particular for ALMA as he is the Subsystem Scientist of the ALMA Science Archive. He is responsible for driving the evolution of the Science Archive by designing the user-experience and providing requirements for ALMA’s software development team. Felix has written the version of the software that has been tested and used for the ARI development study. His background includes co-writing the “HST Cache” a complete parallel data-processing solution around the existing HST data-reduction pipelines. He has also solid experience in massively parallel computing on “top 500” supercomputers. Fabrizia Guglielmetti is involved in ALMA data analysis and quality assurance. She is knowledgeable on the ALMA pipeline and, on demand, she modifies the pipeline to solve critical cases to meet the PIs and Archive requirements. She is expert in image analysis, statistical modeling with a special emphasis on Bayesian probability theory for outlier detection, astrometry, cosmology and interferometry.
All members of ARC staff have many years experience in supporting users of ALMA and other instruments, including in archival research. The node Responsible, Gary Fuller, led the ALMA Science Archive science requirements study and Anita Richards assisted with standards for data description. George Bendo is involved in the ADMIT project and Adam Avison (former UK-node member) runs the Observing Support Tool.
